Plans For July

Well it's July...already (!) and I have a few things beginning to mount up on my hobby desk so I figured I'd put together a quick preview of things to come:

1. Forgeworld Empire Manann's Blades

It was my birthday in June (the 10th for those looking to mark it in their calendar!) and one present from my lovely other half was the new FW Empire command group for the Manann's Blades swordsmen.

They really are lovely figures and some of the best cast quality I have seen from Forgeworld - minimal clean up and crisp, clean detail. Excellent!

2. Forgeworld Event Only Chaos Dwarf Hellsmith

A treat to myself for my birthday, I picked this one up from eBay for the cheapest I have seen him go. What I like about this figure is the fact that it maintains the key style elements of the original Chaos Dwarfs, combined with some more modern Chaos style ques.

Unfortunately, as this guy is probably a bit too small and unimposing to make a good Golden Demon Fantasy Single entry, he's probably not too high on the priority list at the moment. That said, I am keen to get paint on him as he looks nice and "easy" to paint.

3. Storm of Magic "Pimp My Wizard" Contest

PDH from Dakka Dakka's P&M forum has put together a little friendly invitation only contest ("Pimp My Wizard 40k!") to convert one of the new Storm of Chaos plastic wizards into a 40k character and I was invited to take part.

As I was intending on picking up one of the figures anyway for exactly this purpose, I duly accepted his invite and placed my order for this figure last weekend:

Again, another very nice looking kit with bags of conversion potential!

4. Suffer Not The Heretic Project

Finally, I will be continuing with my Inquisition Warband models I have been working on of late. I finished the sculpting and conversion work on the Inquisitor below the other day and have begun applying basecoats. Hopefully I will get at least the bulk of the paintjob done before the model above arrives!

Busy month ahead!

  1. Looks like you have some excellent plans for July. The inquisitor in particular is very interesting, although the huskblade is a bit too iconic to the original figure in my opinion. Given that the foce staff is (sort of) a close combat weapon, possibly a pistol may suit?

The putty work on the book looks quite excellent, although I hope you bulge out the cloak on the side to compensate.

  2. I'm afraid your old age is starting to affect you, it is still June!

  3. Ha, your right, I intended to schedule it for the weekend and completely forgot by the time I was finished!

The husk blade has actually been changed quite a bit since that pic was taken. I filled all the holes and added three eyes on each side near the hilt to make it look demonic.

  4. looks like some interesting plans, I'm looking forward for the wizard thing, there is indeed a lot of conversion potential. I was intending to buy me one for converting to 40k aswell.

I like the inquisitor, but the head seems a bit off; could be just me.

  5. Happy (belated) Birthday!

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the Finecast mage, it looks like a very nice sculpt.

I agree with griffit, I personally don't feel that the head suits the rest of the body. The GS work you have done on the body is really nice though, and I really like the small touches like the addition of the book.

The command models for Mananns Blades are exquisite, I'm sorely tempted to get a set myself. Are you just going to paint them as they are, or have you got other plans?

I've been following your blog for a while, and its definitely one of my favourites. Keep up the inspirational work. On a side note, do you ever have any of your models on display at the GW in Glasgow?

  6. Happy Birthday chief :D If I'd known... ;)

Looking very good line up indeed, I've a penchant for the Necromancer myself as a Warhammer Quest bad guy. Curious they finecast everything else except these new Wizard models? Either way, I'm happy, prefer the plastic :D

Look forward to the next update!

  7. Cheers guys

Griffit - definitely treat yourself to one!

Mantoba - thanks. I'll probably just paint them up with minimal/no modification. I used to have a few pieces in the cabinets but I took them all back after one went missing and I got a cabinet of my own at home.

Tael - Cheers buddy! Looking forward to seeing what you do with he necromancer! Each kit has a lot of potential.

What an awe-inspiring Inquisitor you're converting there - I cannot wait to see it painted.
